High-performance Wi-Fi enabled Smart Manufacturing at Duy Tan Plastic Production Joint Stock Company

Customer Introduction

Established in 1987, Duy Tan is currently a leading plastic brand in Vietnam and aims to become a top plastic manufacturer in ASEAN. Duy Tan's products undergo a strict verification process from design, production, to finishing and delivery. The products are not only favored by domestic customers but also exported to demanding markets such as the United States, Japan, and Europe in general.

Duy Tan is one of the early manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam to recognize and quickly adopt advanced technologies, the core of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, into its factory system and production lines. In recent years, Duy Tan has made strong investments in new factories, implemented robotics, automation, and utilized Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices to continuously innovate processes and move towards smart manufacturing.

HPT is honored to be chosen as the strategic partner for Information Technology (IT) by Duy Tan for many years. Duy Tan trusts HPT to provide comprehensive IT solutions and services to support its office system, branches, and factories

Requirements & Challenges

As mentioned earlier, in recent years, Duy Tan has built multiple new "smart manufacturing" factories. To ensure an infrastructure for smart manufacturing, a high-performance and stable network infrastructure is essential. With IoT devices and handheld devices, and to ensure system flexibility, the network infrastructure in the factories must primarily rely on wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi).

The first requirement that Duy Tan needs to address is deploying a Wi-Fi network that can cover all seven workshops of a new factory, with a total area of up to 180,000m². To ensure the accuracy of production processes, fast and accurate system operation, the Wi-Fi range, speed, and coverage for each device and area need to be precisely designed and adjusted according to the specific locations, conditions, and devices in the workshops.

In a modern production environment, machinery systems need to operate and connect 24/7. Therefore, the wireless network system, in particular, and the overall network infrastructure, in general, must ensure the ability to maintain stable and continuous connections 24/7.

In addition to fixed machinery systems, the Wi-Fi system is also necessary for employees using mobile devices such as handheld barcode scanners, which require movement across different locations to perform their tasks. The roaming capability of barcode devices needs to be carefully considered and calculated to optimize the time and performance of employees.

In a production environment, factors such as temperature, humidity, physical obstacles, and installation height also need to be taken into account. These external conditions significantly affect the quality of access points, Wi-Fi signal quality, and overall network accessibility.

Lastly, although the wireless network system is deployed across multiple areas, it needs to be centrally managed, monitored, and statistically analyzed to assist the IT team in making informed decisions.

Solution & Deployment Services by HPT

Based on the requirements of Duy Tan, HPT has conducted a detailed and careful design and deployment of a high-performance industrial-grade Wi-Fi network solution. The process follows the standard three phases: Survey & Design, Deployment & Integration, Improvement & Optimization.

Surveying, measuring, and calculating the coverage density and installation locations of access points are crucial in the design phase, especially in an industrial manufacturing environment. With professional measurement tools and experience in design, HPT has provided suitable models and heatmaps for each area and workshop, ensuring maximum coverage quality and high stability. Additionally, HPT designs a comprehensive access network that aligns with the specific needs and operations of each factory.

For the equipment, HPT selects the centralized management wireless network solution from Aruba, with specialized access points designed for industrial environments, featuring high power and load capacity. Directional antennas integrated into the access points allow flexible adjustment of signal direction to prioritize suitable locations. Roaming areas are optimized to ensure fast roaming capabilities, enabling continuous device movement without interruption.

Specific challenges related to the production environment, such as high installation positions, physical obstacles, and signal interference on transmission connections, are carefully calculated, measured, and tested to determine appropriate deployment options

To ensure long-term and highly stable system operation, HPT focuses on optimization and tuning. Immediately after installation and initial device configuration, HPT continuously monitors and records parameters, measures signal quality, noise levels, access speeds, and performs appropriate configuration tuning for each device, user, and area to provide the best possible experience for customers

The high-performance wireless network solution for the production environment designed and deployed by HPT has fully met Duy Tan's requirements, enabling them to have a robust and flexible Wi-Fi infrastructure for smart manufacturing as planned: real-time updating of all production data. The IoT system is reliably and securely integrated into production. The productivity of the manufacturing system and the efficiency of employees have been improved. The system is centrally managed and operated with ease.
